SPANISH PH.D CURRICULUM
60 total hours of credit, a minimum of 45 in Spanish. (Hours earned for the MA are applicable. Also may include transfer credit. However MA thesis hours, required courses and minor courses do not count as part of the doctoral hours).
I. Required courses, 6-9

5352-Methods of Literary Criticism
5354-Hispanic Literary Concepts
Linguistics 5322-Teaching Foreign Language (Required for TAs
& GPTIs; encouraged for all others)
II. Complete hours from the courses listed below. Students are required to take at least two courses in Penninsular literature, two in Latin American literature and a fifth course from Other Areas.

Reading knowledge of two languages other than English or Spanish. (A graduate
minor in a language other than English or Spanish may be substituted for this
requirement.)
