How to Apply for Admission to the Spanish Graduate Program
Please note that if you just have a Bachelor's degree you'll be applying for the Masters in Romance Languages; you cannot apply directly to the Ph.D program unless you already have a Masters degree in Spanish.
1. You must apply to the Texas Tech Graduate
School; send the following items directly to:
TTU Graduate Admissions, ms 41030, Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX 79409-1030
a. Completed application form and application fee; this form is available on-line at http://www.depts.ttu.edu/gradschool/
b. GRE scores (and TOEFL score for international students; TOEFL may be waived if the student has a degree from a U.S. university);
c. Official copies of transcripts from all previously-attended universities;
d. All applicants should study the information at http://www.depts.ttu.edu/officialpublications/catalog/GRADAdmission.html
2. You must apply directly to the Spanish Graduate Program as well; send the following items to me: Prof. Susan Isabel Stein, Dept. CMLL, ms. 2071, Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX 79409-2071
a. An email informing me that you have applied to the Graduate School;
b. Copies of your university academic transcripts;
c. An academic writing sample in Spanish;
d. Completed TA application form (if you are interested in a teaching assistantship) & Spanish Graduate Program application;
e. Have three letters of recommendation which may be sent to me via email sent directly to me.
f. I will arrange an oral interview with you to verify your levels of Spanish and English proficiency.
PLEASE KEEP THE FOLLOWING CONSIDERATIONS IN MIND:
1. Your application must be complete by March 15
for early consideration for a TAship and admission for the fall
semester. If you are
interested in the possibility of being nominated for a Chancellor’s
Fellowship, your application must be complete by February 15.
2. The application deadline for Spring admission is November 20.
3. You will not be
considered for acceptance or a teaching position until ALL OF THE ABOVE materials have been received by Graduate Admissions and
myself.
