GRADUATE PROGRAM IN SPANISH

152 HOUR DUAL BA/MA IN SPANISH

1. Program description: The program allows strong students to accelerate their undergraduate degree programs and begin graduate work in their fourth year, and finish both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in a total of about five years. This is accomplished by allowing nine hours of graduate coursework (5000 level courses) in CMLL to count toward both the undergraduate major (in lieu of three 4000 level courses) and the master’s degree.

2. Admission Criteria and Procedures: Admission to combined degree programs is competitive and will follow all current requirements of the Graduate School and CMLL for admission to graduate study. The student must apply and be admitted to the TTU Graduate School (http://www.depts.ttu.edu/gradschool/ ) and the Dual BA/MA program ( application form )before enrolling in graduate courses. The student’s overall GPA in the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework as well as the GPA in the major will be considered. Prospective students ordinarily should apply during their junior year and must meet the following requirements:

  • Demonstrate significant progress towards meeting both general education requirements and the requirements for an undergraduate CMLL major;
  • Take the GRE during the Junior year;
  • Have strong language proficiency as measured by the ACTFL scale or a comparable performance assessment;
  • Have strong letters of recommendation from undergraduate CMLL faculty.
  • 3. Advising: During the senior year, course scheduling must receive both standard undergraduate advising and approval by the appropriate Graduate Advisor. Potential applicants are strongly urged to meet early with the appropriate Graduate Advisor to discuss their interest, required undergraduate preparation, and the suitability of the program for their career objectives.

    4. Financial Support: If a student is admitted then he/she ordinarily would receive 5th year funding as a TA/GPTI provided that at the end of the 4th year s/he has:

  • completed all requirements for and been awarded the B.A.;
  • a 3.0 GPA both overall and in Spanish;
  • completed 9 hours graduate credit with 3.0 GPA or better (18 hours to be appointed as a GPTI).
  • Such funding is contingent upon available resources.
